Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli has demonstrated his commitment to educational development in Oyo State with a ₦20 million intervention that benefited 1,635 students across Oyo South Senatorial District.

The initiative, undertaken in January 2024, featured a four-week free holiday coaching programme organised across 18 centres within the senatorial district.

The programme was designed to provide students with additional academic support during the holiday period, while helping them strengthen their preparation for forthcoming examinations and improve their overall academic performance.

A total of 1,635 students participated in the coaching programme, which brought together teachers and students across the 18 designated centres. As part of the intervention, Senator Alli also provided financial support for the payment of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees for 54 students, thereby helping to ease the financial burden of examination registration on their families.

Outstanding participants in the coaching programme were further recognised with cash awards as an incentive for academic excellence and to encourage other students to take their studies seriously.

The expenditure on the initiative covered teachers’ remuneration, WAEC fees and cash awards to outstanding students, bringing the total investment to approximately ₦20 million.

The intervention is part of Senator Alli’s broader constituency-focused approach, with education featuring prominently among areas of support for young people and families within Oyo South.

By combining free academic coaching with direct examination support and incentives for outstanding students, the initiative addressed different aspects of the educational challenges confronting beneficiaries.

The four-week programme also provided students with an opportunity to remain academically engaged during the holiday, while giving participating teachers an avenue to contribute to the academic development of students within their communities.

For the beneficiaries of the WAEC support, the intervention was particularly significant as examination fees can constitute a considerable financial obligation for families, especially those with multiple school-age children.
