In Oyo State’s political lexicon, the phrase “already senatorial” has come to describe a politician whose activities and responsibilities appear to extend beyond the immediate demands of his current office. For Hon. Engr. Aderemi Abass Oseni, that description is increasingly being associated with the breadth of his first-term record in the House of Representatives.

Representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Oseni has combined legislative responsibilities with committee oversight, constituency interventions, infrastructure initiatives and empowerment programmes. His current position as Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) places him at the centre of parliamentary oversight of an agency responsible for maintaining federal roads across the country. In that capacity, he has participated in scrutiny of FERMA’s performance and called for stronger project-delivery standards and value for money.

His constituency record has also featured substantial empowerment initiatives. In February 2026, reports documented the distribution of ₦100 million in grants to constituents, including ₦1 million each to 20 selected youths and grants to market women and artisans. Earlier interventions included ₦1 million grants to beneficiaries and planned support for market women.

Agriculture has equally featured prominently. In July 2026, Oseni was reported to have distributed agricultural inputs to about 7,000 farmers across Ido and Ibarapa East, following an earlier distribution of six trailers of fertiliser.

Education and technology have also entered the constituency-development equation. In July 2026, he launched a Smart Learning Intervention Legacy Programme involving more than ₦280 million in learning hubs, with proposed training in areas including artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, digital marketing and data analysis.

Infrastructure has been another recurring feature of his agenda. In 2023, Oseni announced a ₦5 billion Ido/Ibarapa Development Fund and he outlined plans for road construction and rehabilitation, alongside the acquisition of earth-moving equipment.

These interventions provide the context for his decision to seek the Oyo South Senatorial seat. A Senator represents a considerably larger constituency than a member of the House of Representatives, and the transition therefore raises a natural question about the scale of representation that Oseni intends to bring to the district.

There are presently three elected Senators representing Oyo State, while Oseni remains a member of the House of Representatives. Yet, based on the range of his documented activities, from parliamentary oversight and legislative engagement to infrastructure, agriculture, education and grassroots empowerment, his supporters have increasingly described his first-term performance as having “senatorial dimensions.”

Ultimately, the value of any political office is measured by what its occupant does with the mandate entrusted to him. Oseni’s first term has produced a record substantial enough to place his legislative activities, constituency interventions and proposed programmes firmly within the public conversation as Oyo South considers its representation for the next political cycle.

A vote for Hon. Remi Oseni in the next election as Senator representing Oyo South in the Senate will, no doubt, bring unsurpassed development to Oyo State. If his stewardship so far as a Rep member has ‘senatorial dimensions’, his stewardship as a Senator will surely have ‘governorship dimensions’.
