Concerned stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have called on party members to remain united and committed to the party, urging them to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the June 12 democratic struggle.
In a Democracy Day message issued on Friday, the group described June 12 as a symbol of sacrifice, hope, perseverance and democratic triumph, paying tribute to the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola and other heroes who fought for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.
The stakeholders also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other pro-democracy activists for their roles in sustaining the struggle against military rule and preserving democratic governance in the country.
They urged APC members in Oyo State not to be discouraged by current political challenges, stressing that the success of the June 12 struggle demonstrated the importance of persistence, consistency and faith in a just cause.
The group further advised party faithful to disregard rumours and politically motivated claims suggesting that any individual had already been chosen as the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections. According to them, such assertions amount to propaganda and do not reflect the democratic principles of the APC.
Expressing confidence in the party’s internal processes, the stakeholders said consultations at the national level were aimed at strengthening internal democracy and ensuring that the wishes of party members were respected. They maintained that only candidates duly elected through the party’s processes would emerge as flag bearers for the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders also expressed optimism about the APC’s prospects in Oyo State, stating that the party would regain control of the Government House in Agodi in 2027. They equally predicted a strong electoral performance for President Tinubu in Oyo State and across the country, citing growing confidence in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement was signed by Akinleye Segun (Bishop), Oloye Banji Agboola, Mogaji Abiola Oyeyemi, Hon. Ishola Akeem Adetoyese, Adekola Mudashir (Asiwaju), and Saheed-Lekan Olayiwola (Aare) on behalf of concerned APC stakeholders and leaders in Oyo State.
