Governor Seyi Makinde has signed Executive Order 002, restricting the operations of commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada, to the period between 5:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. across Oyo State.

The Executive Order, titled “The Registration and Enforcement of Vehicle Registration and Traffic Management in Oyo State,” is aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture, enhancing road safety, and improving the regulation of commercial transportation within the state.

The new directive forms part of the Oyo State Government’s broader efforts to improve the identification, registration and monitoring of commercial motorcycle operators, a policy the government has consistently linked to security concerns and crime prevention. Previous measures introduced by the state include mandatory registration, reflective jackets with QR codes, and stricter enforcement against unregistered operators.

Details on enforcement mechanisms and penalties for violations are expected to be released by the government and relevant traffic management authorities.
The development is expected to have significant implications for commercial motorcycle operators and commuters who depend on the service, particularly during late-night hours.
