The Gbonnka Olubadan of Ibadanland and Okanlomo Oódua, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State to close ranks, reconcile aggrieved members and ensure that promises made to the electorate are fulfilled.

Sanusi made the call while receiving the Oyo State leadership of the APC, led by the state Chairman, Pa. Moses Adeyemo Alake, who visited him in appreciation of his contribution to the party’s recent mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his remarks, Sanusi stressed that the party’s quest to reclaim Oyo State could not be achieved through mobilisation alone. He emphasised the need for unity, love, tolerance, mutual respect, inclusiveness and reconciliation among members and leaders.

He particularly encouraged the party leadership to reach out to members who may feel aggrieved, warning against allowing personal disagreements and internal divisions to undermine the collective interest of the party.

“Let’s not destroy the family with disunity,” Sanusi cautioned.

The traditional leader also underscored the importance of keeping faith with the people, stressing that political parties must not approach elections merely as an exercise in making promises. According to the thrust of his intervention, credibility at the polls must be built on the willingness and capacity of political leaders to honour commitments made to the electorate.

Sanusi expressed optimism about the APC’s prospects in the 2027 elections, particularly its efforts to secure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reclaim Oyo State through the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.

He said the impressive mobilisation witnessed during the inauguration of the Tinubu Torch Bearers demonstrated the strength and organisational capacity of the APC, but advised the party to convert that momentum into a united and disciplined political structure.

The Okanlomo Oódua’s intervention therefore went beyond a call for electoral mobilisation. It was also a reminder to the party leadership that unity must be genuine, reconciliation must be deliberate and promises to voters must be treated as obligations rather than campaign rhetoric.

The APC leadership, through its State Secretary, Barrister Fatai Adesina, thanked Sanusi for his counsel and assured him that the party would consider his advice as it continues efforts to strengthen its internal cohesion ahead of 2027.
