The Campaign Organisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sen. Sharafadeen Alli, has raised the alarm over alleged attempts by fraudsters to impersonate the candidate and members of his campaign team to obtain sensitive personal and financial information from unsuspecting members of the public.

The organisation, in a statement issued on Saturday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, described the development as a fraudulent scheme capable of exposing victims to identity theft, financial fraud and other criminal activities.

According to the organisation, some individuals had reportedly contacted members of the public by telephone, falsely claiming to be acting on behalf of Alli and his campaign team while requesting sensitive information, including National Identification Numbers (NINs), bank account details and other personal data.

It therefore urged members of the public to disregard such calls and refrain from disclosing personal, banking or identification details to unidentified individuals or unverified contacts.

The campaign organisation stressed that neither Senator Alli nor his campaign team had authorised any individual to collect NINs, bank account details, passwords, Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or other confidential information from members of the public.

It further cautioned the public against transferring money or responding to requests for financial assistance originating from unverified telephone numbers, social media accounts or other unofficial communication channels purportedly associated with the campaign.

The organisation urged anyone who receives suspicious calls, messages or requests claiming to originate from Alli or his campaign team to report the matter promptly to the appropriate security agencies.

It said the campaign organisation was taking the allegations seriously and would cooperate with relevant security agencies to identify and prosecute individuals found to be involved in impersonation, fraud or other criminal activities using the name of the APC candidate.

The organisation also advised members of the public to verify unsolicited claims before taking any action and to obtain information about Senator Alli and his campaign only through officially verified communication channels.

It reaffirmed Alli’s commitment to lawful, transparent and responsible engagement with the people of Oyo State, stressing that legitimate political engagement does not require members of the public to surrender confidential banking, identification or security information to unidentified callers.
