IBADAN, Nigeria – Oloye Suraju Abiola Iyiola, the Aare Onibon Olubadan of Ibadanland, will next Friday be elevated to the prestigious title of Aare Egbe Omo Olubadan by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Aruna I, at the ancient monarch’s palace at Oke Aremo in Ibadan.

The promotion follows vacancies created in the Otun (Civil) Line of the Olubadan traditional chieftaincy hierarchy following the demise of some senior chiefs, paving the way for Oloye Iyiola to advance to the next available rank. Under the unique Olubadan succession system, vacancies are filled according to seniority, and where an intermediate title is vacant or bypassed due to multiple vacancies, eligible chiefs may be promoted beyond a single step in line with the established chieftaincy declaration.

Oloye Iyiola, who currently holds the title of Aare Onibon Olubadan, is expected to assume the office of Aare Egbe Omo Olubadan, one of the recognised titles in the Otun Line. The elevation marks another significant milestone in his steady progression along the succession ladder leading to the revered throne of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The installation ceremony is expected to attract members of the Olubadan-in-Council, traditional rulers, family members, associates, and other dignitaries from within and outside Ibadanland to witness the conferment of the new title.
