…Reflects on Five Years of Transformative Leadership

IBADAN – After five years at the helm of Pensioners’ 106.7 FM, Ibadan, Dr. Babatunde B. Tiamiyu has formally announced his departure as General Manager of the station, describing his tenure as the most defining period of his professional career.
In a heartfelt farewell message, Tiamiyu said his service at the radio station was more than an appointment, but a calling that offered him the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a unique broadcasting institution dedicated to amplifying the voices and welfare of pensioners and the wider public.
According to him, his administration introduced innovative listener-centred programmes, strengthened public advocacy, expanded the station’s digital presence beyond Nigeria, and built a team driven by professionalism, passion and purpose.
He attributed the successes recorded during his tenure to the grace of Almighty Allah and the collective efforts of the Board, management, staff and other stakeholders.
Tiamiyu expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman of the Board, Chief Adebisi Adesola, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Council, Pastor James Osuntade, the Board Secretary, Comrade Banji Koleoso, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Pensioners’ 106.7 FM, Dr. Olusegun Abatan, whom he commended for giving him the opportunity to serve first as a pioneer staff member before becoming General Manager.
He also thanked members of the management team, staff, media colleagues, clients, listeners, the Media Transformative Group (MTG), friends and family for their unwavering support throughout his years of service.
Describing his exit as “not an ending but a triumphant transition,” the veteran broadcaster said he was grateful that the Board celebrated his achievements and contributions to the growth of Pensioners’ 106.7 FM, widely regarded as the world’s first labour union-owned radio station.
Although he did not disclose details of his next engagement, Tiamiyu hinted that another phase of his career would soon be unveiled.
“The future is bright. What next? Where next? The wait will not be long,” he declared.
Dr. Babatunde B. Tiamiyu served as General Manager of Pensioners’ 106.7 FM from August 20, 2021, until June 2026, overseeing a period marked by programme innovation, institutional growth and increased audience reach.
