A former member of the Oyo State Youth Parliament and current Oyo APC youth leader, Mr. Olalekan Glory, has accused the Oyo State Government of misrepresenting the history of the state’s Youth Parliament following the inauguration of what the government described as the 3rd Oyo State Youth Parliament Assembly.

In a public statement issued on Friday, Glory described the designation of the newly inaugurated Assembly as the third as “historically inaccurate and misleading,” insisting that the second Oyo State Youth Parliament Assembly was inaugurated during the administration of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

According to him, the second Assembly, of which he was a member, was inaugurated under the supervision of the then Special Adviser on Youth Development, Hon. Afeez Repete.

He argued that disregarding the existence of the second Assembly because it was constituted under a previous administration was unacceptable, stressing that governance is a continuum and that state institutions should not be subjected to political considerations.

Glory maintained that altering the historical record of the Youth Parliament undermines the credibility and integrity of the institution while diminishing the contributions of former youth legislators.

He called on the Oyo State Government to correct what he described as a historical error by recognising the newly inaugurated body as the fourth Oyo State Youth Parliament Assembly in line with established records.

He also urged the government to refrain from politicising state institutions or rewriting history, noting that the Oyo State Youth Parliament was established to promote youth participation in governance, leadership development and democratic values.

While congratulating members of the newly inaugurated Assembly, Glory emphasised the need to preserve history with accuracy, fairness and integrity for the benefit of present and future generations.
