The lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, Hon. Akin Alabi, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, urging renewed commitment to national unity, security and democratic governance.
Alabi, in a Democracy Day message, expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity across the country, particularly the recent abduction of victims in Ogbomosho, Oyo State.
He called on security agencies to intensify efforts towards the swift rescue of the victims and ensure their safe reunion with their families.
The federal lawmaker stressed that security should not be politicised, describing it as a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of government, security agencies, community leaders and citizens.
Alabi also highlighted the passage of the constitutional amendment bill for the creation of State Police by the House of Representatives, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
According to him, the proposed State Police system would enhance community-based policing and improve the nation’s capacity to tackle crime and insecurity more effectively.
While acknowledging that challenges remain, he urged Nigerians to continue supporting efforts aimed at deepening democracy, upholding the rule of law and building a safer, more prosperous and united country.
He wished all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day celebration.
