The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false a report alleging that one of the schoolchildren abducted during the recent attack on three schools in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, died while in captivity.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated on Friday that the report was malicious, misleading and without any factual basis.

According to him, neither the Oyo State Police Command nor any of the security agencies involved in ongoing rescue efforts had confirmed such a development.

“The publication is a fabrication carefully crafted by individuals whose objective is to arouse unnecessary public sentiment, create panic, spread fear and undermine ongoing security operations,” Olayinka said.

He noted that the report relied on speculative claims and unverified accounts aimed at manipulating public opinion and creating anxiety among residents.

The police spokesman warned that the spread of false information at a critical time could jeopardise rescue efforts, cause additional trauma to affected families and mislead the public.
He said security agencies were continuing efforts to secure the release of the abducted victims, assuring residents that all operational activities were being pursued with professionalism and diligence.

Olayinka also cautioned bloggers, social media influencers, online content creators and media organisations against publishing or amplifying unverified security-related information.

He urged the public to disregard the report and rely only on information released through official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and other authorised government agencies.

The Command reiterated its commitment to public safety and pledged to keep residents informed of verified developments regarding the abduction incident.
