A group of concerned stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has called on party chieftain, Alhaji Fatai Ibukunle, to exercise restraint in his public comments following alleged remarks attributed to him during a party function held on June 1, 2026.
In a statement jointly signed by Adekola Mudashir (Asiwaju), Mogaji Abiola Oyeyemi, Oloye Banji Agboola, Hon. Ishola Akeem Adetoyese, Saheed-Lekan Olayiwola (Aare), and Akinleye Segun (Bishop), the stakeholders expressed concern that the comments reportedly made by Ibukunle had been interpreted by many party members as disparaging to the progressive ideals upon which the APC was founded.
The group stated that the APC remains a progressive platform committed to providing opportunities for competent and deserving individuals from all backgrounds to attain leadership positions based on their records of service and achievements.
According to the statement, the alleged remarks appeared to reflect what the stakeholders described as a continuing hostility towards the legacy of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, whose administration they said remains one of the most remarkable periods in the state’s political and developmental history.
They noted that Ajimobi’s achievements, leadership qualities and credibility continue to inspire party members and supporters across the state, adding that the APC intends to highlight his administration’s accomplishments as part of its campaign strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While acknowledging the right of party members to express their views on issues affecting the APC, the stakeholders urged Ibikunle and other leaders to be mindful of statements capable of generating unnecessary tensions within the party.
They warned that inflammatory and divisive comments could undermine party cohesion and create divisions among members, particularly against individuals who played significant roles in building and sustaining the APC in Oyo State.
The stakeholders called on all leaders and party faithful to focus on strengthening the unity of the APC and advancing its collective interests rather than reopening old divisions.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to promoting fairness, inclusiveness, internal democracy and respect for the contributions of party leaders, both past and present.
Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects, the group said it remained confident that through unity, discipline and collective purpose, the APC would perform successfully in the 2027 elections and reclaim governance in Oyo State.
