ABUJA — The Minister of Power, Engr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has commended the management and staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) for what he described as outstanding efforts in strengthening electricity supply across the country.
Tegbe gave the commendation following the successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja by TCN, a development expected to significantly boost transmission capacity within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The minister also praised the collaboration between TCN and AEDC in restoring electricity supply to parts of the FCT within 24 hours after an emergency transformer failure.
According to him, the swift response demonstrated the benefits of effective inter-agency cooperation in addressing challenges within the power sector.
“Earlier today, TCN energised a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, a significant boost to transmission capacity across the FCT. A few days ago, TCN and AEDC also demonstrated exceptional inter-agency synergy, restoring electricity supply to parts of the FCT within 24 hours of an emergency transformer failure,” Tegbe said.
The minister further highlighted the recent achievement of NDPHC under the leadership of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, in reviving the 450MW Alaoji Power Plant after three years of inactivity.
He noted that the restoration of the plant had increased available generation capacity, with up to 375MW now ready for dispatch to the national grid.
“Similarly, NDPHC under the leadership of Engr. Jennifer Adighije recently revived the 450MW Alaoji Power Plant after three years, with up to 375MW now available for dispatch to the national grid,” he added.
Tegbe said the achievements reflected the commitment of key stakeholders in the power sector to improving electricity infrastructure and service delivery nationwide.
“I commend the Management and Staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) for their outstanding work. Under my leadership, productivity and excellence will be acknowledged and rewarded,” the minister stated.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving electricity supply and ensuring that ongoing reforms in the power sector translate into better service delivery for Nigerians.
