A protest organised in Ibadan on Tuesday to demand urgent government action on the rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State reportedly turned violent following a clash involving representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and other protesters.

Eyewitnesses said the situation deteriorated rapidly at the UI–Agbowo Shopping Complex axis, with reports of gunshots causing panic among demonstrators and passers-by. The development led to the dispersal of protesters as many fled the scene for safety.
Sources at the protest said some individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries during the chaos, although the exact number of casualties could not be immediately confirmed.

The protest was convened to press authorities to intensify efforts toward securing the release of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Ahoro-Esienle and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

As of the time of filing this report, security personnel had reportedly been deployed to the area to restore calm, while tension remained high around the UI–Agbowo Shopping Complex corridor.

Further details are expected as the situation develops.
